Let’s Talk About Bobbling: A Little Knitwear Truth 🧶
Share
At Fox & Fauna, we love choosing pieces that feel soft, warm, and comforting — the kind you reach for again and again.
Sometimes, after a few wears, you might notice small bobbles appearing on the surface of your jumper. Let’s talk about what’s really happening, and why it’s completely normal.
What Causes Bobbling?
Bobbling (also called pilling) happens when small fibres on the surface of your knit gently rub against each other through everyday wear — like carrying a bag or washing your jumper.
It’s most common in blends that include wool and polyester — where the softness of natural fibres meets the strength of synthetics.

A Sign of Softness, Not Poor Quality
We choose natural fibres for their breathability, warmth, and comfort. Because of that softness, they can move and shift with wear — and that’s what creates those tiny surface bobbles.
Far from being a flaw, it’s a natural part of how your knitwear lives and breathes.

How to Keep Your Knit Looking Beautiful
Caring for your jumper is simple:
- Use a gentle fabric shaver or bobble comb to remove pills.
- Wash inside out on a gentle cycle, or hand wash when possible.
- Avoid excess friction (like wearing a heavy shoulder bag on the same side).
A few minutes of care brings your jumper back to its best — soft, smooth, and ready for more adventures.
